Bauchi State is located in the northeastern region of Nigeria. It was created on February 3, 1976 from the former North-Eastern State. It is bordered by Kano and Jigawa to the north, Taraba and Plateau to the south, Gombe and Yobe to the east, and Kaduna to the west.

According to the 2006 National population census, Bauchi State had a population of 4,676,465 people.
